The E-Raw: Reinventing Electric Motorcycle Design?
Whether us petrolheads like it or not, electric motorcycles are here to stay. But that doesn't mean they have to be boring. For example, who says an electric bike has to have a standard tank shape, if it serves no actual purpose?
French manufacturers, Essence Motorcycle asked that very question when they designed the new E-Raw: "Simplicity is supreme sophistication - Leonardo DeVinci". That's the phrase the they refer to when they speak about their bikes.
"We combine raw materials, metal and wood, which we work by hand, using artisan techniques as ancestral innovation."
The E-Raw has a hand crafted wooden seat and 'tank' perched atop a trellis frame. With the short seat the bike has a street fighter appeal, but you might want some padding, since sitting on wooden benches isn't especially comfortable for long durations.
Essence Motorcycles are stating a 167kg weight with torque output of 133ftlb, which gets the Pymco electric motor hitting 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds.
The bike tops out at 96mph, but according to Essence, the 10.1 kWh capacity battery will be good for a range of 115 miles. There's less waiting around too with a fast charging time of 30 minutes.
Of course, as you might have guessed, this is no run of the mill consumer machine, the E-Raw is an exclusive run, and priced as such. Only 10 E-Raw models will be made, and Essence are selling them for around $60,000 (£48,168) each.
