Two Dutchmen have built a wooden motorcycle that runs on algae oil. Ritsert Mans, a designer along with his scientist friend Peter Mooji, wanted to demonstrate how algae could be put to better use in the future, and show that algae oil just needed a spark of imagination.
The motorcycle has a wooden chassis, a single-sided swingarm and fork and seems to perform admirably on their beach test runs.
The duo have written an accompanying book called The Thick Algae (or De Dikke Alg, in their native Dutch). As the designer, Mans built the bike, while Mooji grew the algae and with some wizadry turned it into fuel.
